Hello KC Acres Family,
As we welcome the official start of summer, we’re excited to share the latest happenings from the farm. The Summer Solstice marks a significant turning point in the season—longer days, warmer weather, and plenty of work to do. From the sun rising high in the sky to the hayfields in full bloom, there’s so much to celebrate and appreciate.
🌾 Haying Season: Cutting and Baling
This time of year, we’re hard at work cutting and baling hay—a crucial task for KC Acres as we prepare for the months ahead. Hay isn’t just food for our animals, it’s a labor of love that involves careful timing, hard work, and a bit of good weather.
The cutting process begins early in the morning when the grass is still dewy and cool. We mow down the lush grasses that have been growing throughout the spring, ensuring they’re at the perfect height and nutrient density. After cutting, the hay needs to dry in the sun—a process known as “curing.” The drying time is critical to ensuring we get high-quality hay that will store well through the colder months.
Once the hay is sufficiently dry (but not too dry), we get into baling. With the help of our trusted equipment, we bundle the hay into neat bales, ready to be stacked and stored for later use. It’s a time-consuming, but incredibly rewarding process, and we’re so grateful to have the resources and team to make it all happen.
🌱 A Growing Season to Watch!
Aside from haying, we’re also busy planting, tending to our crops, and watching the fields come alive. From the first blossoms on the fruit trees to the green shoots of vegetables pushing through the soil, we’re excited to see what this growing season will bring.
As we enjoy the long summer days, we’re reminded that each season has its own pace and purpose. The Summer Solstice is a beautiful time to appreciate the bounty of the land and the hard work it takes to make it all happen.
We hope you enjoy this special time of year and look forward to sharing more updates with you soon!
With gratitude and sunshine,
Kim & Charlene
