March has arrived, bringing longer days and that gentle shift in the air that tells us spring is on its way. The snow is slowly retreating, the sun is gaining strength — and yet, our horses are still holding onto their thick winter coats. They know better than anyone that March can still surprise us! Winter hasn’t fully let go just yet.
This season also carries the spirit of the Year of the Horse, celebrated during Chinese New Year — a symbol of strength, endurance, vitality, and forward movement. As horse owners, that symbolism feels especially meaningful to us. Horses teach us patience, resilience, and steady strength — qualities we see in nature every spring.
And with that spirit of renewal, we’re excited to share something fascinating about one of our favourite crops.
Wheatgrass & Blood Health: What Live Blood Analysis Reveals
At KC Acres, we’ve always believed that what you grow with care has the power to nourish deeply. Recently, a compelling study by Dr. Okker Botha of Live Blood Online offered rare visual insight into how fresh wheatgrass juice may support healthy blood flow at the cellular level.
What Is Red Blood Cell Zeta Potential?
Red blood cells naturally carry a tiny electrical charge on their surface. This charge creates space between cells and prevents them from sticking together. Scientists refer to this as zeta potential.
When zeta potential is strong:
Red blood cells remain evenly spaced
Blood flows more smoothly
Oxygen delivery throughout the body is optimized
When zeta potential weakens:
Red blood cells can stack or clump together (often called rouleaux formation)
Circulation may become less efficient
What the Study Observed
Using live blood microscopy, Dr. Botha documented visible improvements in red blood cell spacing after the consumption of wheatgrass juice. The images showed cells moving more freely, suggesting an enhancement in zeta potential and overall blood fluidity.
While larger clinical studies are always valuable, this visual evidence provides intriguing insight into how fresh, nutrient-dense greens may influence the body at a foundational level.
Why Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass is known for its exceptionally high chlorophyll content. Chlorophyll is often called “green blood” because of its structural similarity to hemoglobin.
At KC Acres, our wheatgrass is grown outdoors in organic fields under natural sunlight — never artificial greenhouse lighting — allowing it to develop robust nutrient density.
Wheatgrass delivers:
Chlorophyll
Essential minerals
Antioxidants
Living enzymes
These components work together to support overall vitality and circulatory health.
The KC Acres Difference
We grow our wheatgrass with intention — from soil health to harvest timing — because freshness matters. When you consume wheatgrass shortly after harvest, you receive it at peak potency.
Just like our horses patiently waiting for true spring before shedding their winter coats, nature moves in its own perfect timing. And sometimes the most powerful health support begins with something simple: a vibrant green shot grown from healthy soil.
As we welcome March, we invite you to nourish your strength and vitality — naturally.
From our fields to your health,
Kim & Charlene
